Doodia media (rasp fern)

The Doodia media is native to parts of New Zealand and Australia. Similar looking to the Dryopteris Autumn Fern these two can be easily confused. The young fronds of the Doodia contain flavonoids that protect them from the ultraviolet radiation of the sun, giving them a pinkish-red colour. Like the Autumn Fern as the plant matures the fronds turn green. The Doodia media likes light shade and enjoys the morning sun, so if you have it positioned in a window at home make sure it doesn’t receive the full brunt of the afternoon sun. The Doodia media grows well in a rich, moist soil so you may want to adjust watering in the hotter months.
